In the eco-quarter of the French city of Dijon, the first “hotel for insects” appeared in the country.
On the facade of one of the buildings were installed about sixty removable wooden cells, which can shelter several thousand insects.
Last week in Dijon, France opened the first hotel for insects. The hotel is an installation of untreated wood 6 meters high, which is located on the facade of the city building.
A kind of inn for insects was called La Bourdonnerie. In the building itself, two associations for the protection of the environment will soon be located.
The hotel consists of 60 removable cells that can take several thousand insects mostly flying. The cells were formed for the favorable placement in them of various types of insect pollinators (wild bees, butterflies, coleopteran insects).
As the Le Figaro writes, The hotel for insects was conceived as a shelter in case of emergency in order to preserve the biodiversity of flying insects, which often perish from pesticides.
Being both a mini-reserve and an observatory for monitoring the development of the ecosystem of the quarter, the facility will be able to prove that in urban conditions it is possible to find a place for nature and maintain biodiversity.
