World to the West for pc, ps4, Xbox & steam Review: Indie releases such as “Owlboy” have been noted throughout the world, and at present, a certain scandalous Funcom issue is the international news scene.
Nevertheless, we still have to go before we enter the game story books – this sweet brother already did “Battlefield” in his time – much thanks to a state device that does not quite see the value of investing in the world’s largest entertainment industry.
Shots fired, as they say.
Norwegian-produced “World to the West”, developed by mountain-based Rain Games (“Teslagrad”), will not make any mention in this context. It’s an enjoyable little thing, like a black winged crocodile or the pink rosebobs, but not much more than that.
There are some relatively simple reasons.
I only played a few hours of the critically acclaimed first-time project “Teslagrad” (yes, I was stupid to get stuck in one of the brainwritten), but a quick background check reveals that “World to the West” is apparently going on in the same universe.
I do not really understand that point. From a team of people who obviously have a lot of creative talent, I think it’s quite fun to recycle an old idea in this way – especially when the visual identity and storytelling have as few similarities as here.
It has hardly meant anything to say to the gaming experience – neither from time to time – but it’s also an argument for dropping the old note block and writing something that is not at risk of being marked by previous limitations.
With “Teslagrad”‘s 1.6 million sales in mind, I must also admit that I suspect the presence of a cynical need – that the hype of enrolling fans of the first game as well as the possibility of “pingbacks” on Google has trummeted the need for Total creative freedom.
But what do I know?

But “World to the West” also has a lot to do. On the verge of a so-called isometric goose lover, that is, a top and bottom perspective, with a taste of the early nineties – “A Link to the Past” and “Metroid” is obviously a part of the reference.
The big twist here and the essence of “World to the West” are the four characters that the story in the game is based on: Klaus, Luma, Miss Teri and Lord Clonington. As you probably have understood, each of them represents their own set of skills, and their own approaches to the story as told.
And this is where “World to the West” shines its strongest: it’s when the characters at some point cross roads and must resolve each other’s conflicts that it’s clearest how thoughtful it is.
To a game that basically relies on so-called backtracking – that is, going back to previous places in the game with a new look – it’s striking how elegant the game maneuveres between the different parties.
There is a consistent quality:
A clever change between the various characters and timeshops made between the exchanges – one is captured, the other is pulling a treasure hunt and finds that the treasure is already stolen by the first, the action leads back to a point where the two meet with their own motivations .
Although many of these parties offer little puzzles and nuts, I never stuck long enough to get frustrated. And at the moment I began to get bored, either the redemption came in the form of the transition to a new chapter, or in the form of freedom, one has to change figure at checkpoints in the surroundings.
Humor for trouble[irp]
Therefore, it’s too bad that “World to the West” has no particular identity to talk about.
The figures are pieces in the puzzle with replicas that seem so designed that I sometimes have to shrink a bit, and the constant attempts at umbilical-speaking meta-humor take me honestly completely out of the universe.
Meta-humor is not wrong in itself, but it is something that one constantly attempts to give the feeling of a complex universe, but at the same time reminds that it does not exist. In a form like this, it’s allowed to take yourself more seriously than before, Rain Games – I’m certainly willing!
What could have made the game to something bigger therefore ends up making the game something smaller and I’m left with a gaming experience that has given me something just right .
That is, “World to the West” is an almost perfect combination of thought, fingertips and exploration of a carefully thought out gaming universe.
But it is also a game drawn down by an apparent lack of the soul and identity that the mountain gendarmer has previously shown that they are all mastering.
